Dementia Advocates Bill Yeates and Kay Hughes on stage at a dementia community event.

Dementia Advocates Bill Yeates and Kay Hughes recently presented at a major community event organised by the Lifeline Community Visitors Program (Harbour to the Hawkesbury).

Bill spoke about the array of strategies he uses to manage and push back his younger onset dementia, while Kay spoke and performed music about her living experience as a carer.

More than 100 volunteers, stakeholders and others involved in service provision attended the event which Lifeline organised to raise awareness and understanding of dementia.

Bill and Kay were an inspiring team whose presentations and performance was warmly received by those in attendance.

They raised awareness and broke down stereotypes with their positive messages, stories and songs.

The audience asked many questions, keen to learn more from Bill’s and Kay’s living experience.

New connections between service provides and the Dementia Advocates were also established on the night.

The information Bill and Kay shared will help volunteers on the Lifeline community visitor program in their future interactions with isolated people and families who are struggling with dementia.

Bill and Kay are actively planning new speaking and performance assignments in a bid to raise dementia awareness and understanding.
