My organisation applied last year but was unsuccessful. Can we apply again?

Can organisations that are not led by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander or Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) people apply for the grant?

If your organisation is not led by people from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander or CALD communities, but you plan on using the grant funding to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander or CALD communities, you are eligible to apply. However, please note that priority will be given to organisations which are led by people from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander or CALD communities.

Is a registered Pty Ltd company that is not a not-for-profit eligible to apply?

The grant is intended to support not-for-profit grassroot organisations or groups. However, ‘for-profit’ businesses governed by people from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander or Culturally and Linguistically Diverse communities are eligible for consideration if their project proposal aligns with the aims of the Diversity Small Grants. 

Can an individual apply?

Grant funding must be allocated to a legal entity, such as an incorporated body, rather than an individual. To check if your organisation is a legal entity, search the Australian Government’s Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC) Register here: https://www.acnc.gov.au/charity/charities.

If your organisation or group is not a legal entity, please provide the name and contact details of the legal entity (auspicor) that will manage the grant funding on your behalf. An "auspicor" is an incorporated organisation that supports, sponsors, or guides an unincorporated group or individual (the "auspicee") seeking funding or undertaking a project.

Are organisations that operate Residential Aged Care Facilities, along with other services such as social support, settlement services and other CALD community activities, eligible to apply?

Residential Aged Care Facilities are not eligible to apply. The grant is intended to support not-for-profit grassroot organisations or groups which are community led.

Are university-led projects eligible to apply?

University led projects are not eligible to apply for this grant. 

Can the grant be used to hire someone for awareness activities and organising workshops?

Yes. The grant money should be used to empower Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander or CALD communities to conduct their own dementia awareness activities tailored to their specific needs.  

Can an organisation receive an extension to submit their application?

Unfortunately, we are unable to grant extensions beyond the application submission deadline.

How do you book the free professional dementia information session?  

If your organisation is successful, Dementia Australia will contact you to organise a free dementia information session and discuss providing a professional speaker. The mode of delivery (i.e., face-to-face or online) will depend on your organisation’s location, the time of delivery, staff availability and a few other considerations, but can be agreed once, or if, your organisation is successful.
