Dementia Friendly Tasmania Inc (DFT) was launched to raise awareness, knowledge and understanding of dementia within the community.

Established in 2016, DFT is run solely by volunteers. At present with 7 committee members leading the way, along with increasing general member numbers, all with knowledge and experience of working with people living with dementia and their family carers.

Our group aims to:

  • Promote acceptance and understanding of people living with dementia and their family carers,
  • Increase knowledge and understanding of dementia within our community,
  • Collaboratively plan and organize events for people living with dementia,
  • Increase peer interactions and friendships for PLWD carers and families,
  • Encourage community groups, politicians and businesses to understand impacts of dementia, and to become dementia friendly,
  • Promote dementia friendly communities,
  • Use our mnemonic “CARES”

                        E – engagement and encouragement

                        S – support and share stories 

Services

Providing information sessions regarding dementia and how clubs, groups and businesses can become dementia friendly.

Holding monthly get togethers for people with dementia and their family and friends: currently 3 Cafes  and a Craft Workshop.
