In April Curtin University and Dementia Australia announced the appointment of the inaugural Chair of Dementia, Professor Blossom Stephan.

Dementia Advocates Steve Rule and Bronte Parkin were invited to the announcement to share their living experience.

Steve and Bronte both shared their personal stories with those present and highlighted why it is important to involve people living with dementia, their families and carers in research.

The inclusion of Advocates in this announcement highlighted the importance of involving people with living experience of dementia.

Dementia Australia’s CEO Maree McCabe said Professor Stephan’s appointment would create and drive an ambitious research program in the detection and care of dementia across Australia.

She said it would also draw new researchers into the dementia research space and increase opportunities for national and international collaboration.
