We’d like to share the story of one of our Helpline Advisors, Aaron, who says listening to and learning from the lived experience of the diverse range of enquirers is the best part of his job.

“I received a call from a gentleman in his 90s who was the primary carer for his wife of over 65 years,” Aaron said.

“He was looking for guidance on virtual reality technology to provide a sensory experience for his wife that he hoped would bring her joy and happiness given her love of landscapes and music.

“With his approval I arranged a confidential referral to the relevant team within Dementia Australia who were able to assist him.

“The caller was very grateful and explained he had a relationship with Dementia Australia and he found the services and support invaluable.”

After the call, Aaron was left inspired by primary carers and the love and care they show day in and day out.
