Meet Rob
When Rob isn't caring for his wife Marg, he's brewing beer with his mate who is also a carer.
Rob’s professional training was in Civil Engineering where he worked for 35 years with Industry, local and Commonwealth governments both locally and overseas. In 2012, he retired following his wife’s diagnosis of Younger Onset Dementia. This led him to follow a radically different career path, but no less satisfying, that of a full-time carer for Marg. This included acting as her medical, physical, psychological support person, advocate and friend.
Throughout most of his life, his primary interest has been to live as sustainably as possible in an urban community, while enjoying and working to maintain the diminishing natural environment, in and beyond his local neighbourhood. A notable exception to this commitment has been a 30-year passion for riding motorcycles.
In retirement, Rob’s been fortunate to have had the time and resources to be able to pursue this love of motorcycling in a new form, that of extended touring. His current motorcycle is a Yamaha MT10, which is an essential tool in maintaining his enthusiasm for living and being the best carer he can be.
