Nine-year-old Peyton cuts hair in support of dementia research

One morning in April 2019, nine-year-old Peyton woke up with a plan – to raise money for Dementia Australia by cutting off her hair!

​Peyton’s great grandfather, who lived with dementia, passed away in August 2014. From a young age Peyton has proudly paid tribute to him by participating at the Canberra Memory Walk & Jog event with her family, and now with her ‘big chop’.

After eighteen months of growing her hair to a length of 25cm, Peyton cut off her locks on 2 October 2020, raising $700 for the Dementia Australia Research Foundation in the process.

Peyton also donated her hair to be made into wigs for those living with medically induced hair loss conditions.

The Dementia Australia Research Foundation supports innovative Australian research by providing grants to talented new and early-career researchers.
