The risk of delirium

Dementia increases the risk of delirium approximately five-fold. If untreated, delirium can increase the risk of:

  • increased length of stay in hospital
  • further complications
  • cognitive and functional decline
  • mortality.

Delirium identification and strategies

Learning how to prevent, identify and manage delirium reduces those risks, increasing the wellbeing of people living with dementia.
